Up-and-coming designer Cyrille Charier’s Open Concept Desks are the kind of functional design that we need more of. Let’s face it, the workplace can be terrifying. The internet is populated almost entirely of websites featuring videos of people doing horrible things to your coworkers, your food or (in the case of Enron) your pension. There’s not much you can do to alleviate this, but Parisian-based Charier has got you covered.

Charier’s open space desks removes walls and divisions, elements which create intra-office resentment and conflict. The face-to-face nature of this office design is commonly used in Japan where it’s utilized to make the office dynamic both friendlier and more efficient. Charier’s folding and telescoping desks lose none of their functionality, giving people both space and a place to put up important things (memos, graphs, pictures of cats etc).
