
Based on the 1918 execution that killed Russia’s last tzar–Nicholas II–and his family, UK-based photographer David Short showcases his series entitled The Riddle of the Romanovs. The Romanov family were finally dug up and identified in 1991 using DNA, but two bodies were undiscovered. Although the remaining bodies were found in 2007, the longstanding mystery has been a conistent thread in Russian history.
