A mélange of neutrals and a bright accent color, best applied to accessories, is a fool-proof trick. The Mods made the black-white-red combination popular in the early ’60s – with focus put especially on suits and business-inspired accessories like cufflinks and ties. Follow their lead by enhancing your look with a bright-colored tie. Don’t let tradition hold you back; try any combination of colors.
Outfit 1:
Barely breaking away from the pattern, this guy has chosen an orange tie to brighten up his look. The tuxedo jacket dresses it up a little and it’s a few sizes small to give it a cropped look – which somehow works really well. He’s paired it with jeans and chucks to tone it down, and the big belt buckle makes it fun. You can tell he has a flair for the experimental and a sense of humour, so let yours show too.
Outfit 2:
Choosing a subdued forest green to highlight the red tie is a great choice. Being complementary colors, everything just pops. Here, he’s playing the tie’s geek-factor all the way to chic by accompanying it with an over-sized watch, matching green kicks and tucking that shirt in. Don’t hold back from doing geeky but do try to keep it subtle (the pocket-protector will likely never become a stylish accessory). He ties it all together with bright ivory-colored jeans – but if you go that route, watch where you sit.
