Ladies Touch – The Art Of The Man-Purse

Ladies Touch – The Art Of The Man-Purse

It’s the 21st century, gentlemen, and the man-purse is fast replacing the satchels, messenger bags and backpacks of yesteryear as one of this season’s trendiest wardrobe accessories. Though many of you are automatically inclined to dismiss the ‘murse’ based on the mis-informed notion that it threatens your masculinity, I’m out to prove that purses can be a stylish and distinctly masculine compliment to almost any wardrobe. Whether your tastes be casual or more refined, rest assured there’s a man-purse for every occasion…

Outfit 1: How much less exciting would this dude’s outfit be without the bright red murse hanging nonchalantly from the crook of his arm? A splash of brilliant color always does the trick of amping up a monochrome getup, and in this case I like how the understated outfit allows the bag to steal the spotlight. I applaud this particular man-purse for its unique vintage vibe and obvious functionality – just imagine all the manly stuff you could carry around in a murse of such epic proportions.

Outfit 2: I dig the Brit-schoolboy-meets-young-John Lennon vibe this stylish young lad is emanating, and I bestow extra credit for his ballsy choice of man-purse: it takes a real man to rock a clutch. The chestnut leather is gorgeous, and contrasts tastefully with the grey blazer and austere white shirt (which I love sans tie). This is also a great example of how unnecessary it is for accessories (particularly shoes, belt, bag) to be a perfect match. As long as the color scheme of the entire ensemble works together, don’t sweat the small stuff.

Now I ain’t saying I’m narrow-minded, and we can still be friends, but tell me with a straight face you’d love your boyfriend carrying that shit from the first picture.

  2. If that’s what floats his boat, I’m a pillar of support. Maybe he’d even let me borrow it…
