Glimmers of spring sunshine are making me restless to escape the concrete inertia of the metropolis for greener pastures, so I deemed this a fitting time to shed the varnish and honor some good ol’ salt of the earth style. To me, a natural look is all about comfort and functionality. What more could you need for a day of countryside rambling than your favorite jeans, comfy walking shoes, a sweater to guard against that lingering chill in the air, and perhaps an apple in your pocket?
Outfit 1: Isn’t this a precious sight? Despite this country boy’s unwavering fascination with his walking stick, he’s put quite a bit of thought into piecing together his outfit. The beauty of a casual look like this one is that it looks effortless even though the subtle details — the striped band on his hat, the complementary navy tones in his grandpa sweater, checked shirt and shoes, and the messenger bag slung nonchalantly over his shoulder — denote a personal flavor and style consciousness. Oddly enough, I like the structure that the rolled up cuffs give to these pants, not to mention it makes him look like he’s ready to tackle a serious romp in the mud.
Outfit 2: I’m a diehard fan of the classic white v-neck, and I like how it’s paired here with an open, loose-fitting sweater vest — I just wish he had some chest hair to flaunt. The dark denim counterbalances the light neutral theme running through the rest of this outfit, and again, I think that the cuffs work for the outfit rather than against it. Personally, I would rethink the shoe choice and go with either a nice brown brogue or some Clarks desert boots, but whatever. I wear my least favorite shoes when I’m wandering through the forest, too.
