Denim was created as the durable uniform of the hard-working man, durable being the key word. Century-old Levi’s, fully intact, were unearthed from a Californian mine shaft, so it’s pretty safe to say that denim leads the pack when it comes to tough textiles.
This leads me to ponder: What better way to pay homage to the most popular fabric in the sphere of casual attire, than to sheath your entire body in the same armor that has been protecting hard-working individuals against mud, grit and bucking broncos since the late 1800’s? There exists, unfortunately, a sad, sad affliction known as denim overkill, but there is also a way to wear denim on denim while looking like a total stud.
Outfit 1: Perfect for a bustling Saturday morning of errand running, a casual coffee date, or just strutting the streets looking like a sex machine, this look is classic and almost effortless. The rolled cuffs and sleeves make the entire look carefree, and the asymmetrically worn belt buckle is a small touch that goes a long way in making his outfit more singular.
The addition of the wristwatch contributes to the manly air of purpose that this gent is projected not only through his squared stance, but through his denim uniform. While denim and leather are an undisputed combination of classics, a pair of white canvas sneaks would be a more lightweight seasonal alternative – save those clunky combat boots for bleaker days.
Outfit 2: If you love denim but don’t want to be so free with your affections, pair jeans and a denim shirt with a vest and jacket for a less casual look. A patterned vest layered with a long jacket brings a new dimension of depth to your look, and spruces you up a bit. Suddenly and surprisingly, denim on denim becomes appropriate for a late night on the town.
