Choose denim by fit and care—not a selvedge label alone
Check waist, rise, thigh room and comfortable movement before deciding on a fit. Ask whether measurements are before or after washing, whether the fabric is pre-shrunk, and what the maker recommends before hemming. Fabric weight and selvedge construction do not by themselves prove comfort or longevity. The old CAD price below is historical, not a current quote.
Naked & Famous distinguishes ordinary denim care from unsanforized and specialty fabrics. Use your exact pair’s instructions rather than a universal shrinkage percentage or a generic hot-soak recipe. This source does not authenticate the archived Paulrose product claims.

Paulrose Products are a Canadian made workwear company that were first established in the 1960s by Paul & Rose Svarc. Recently the company underwent a massive revival with Brandon Svarc (grandson of Paul Svarc) now at the helm paying tribute to his late grandfather’s passing. Paulrose Products use Japanese denims & fabrics, and are still making their goods on Canadian turf.
Nomad in Toronto is currently stoking two different models of their 17oz unsanforized slub selvedge denim in two fits: the Heritage fit (straight) & Modern fit (slim tapered). At $225 CAD they are priced competitively, but offer some unique details that help diversify them from other labels. Flannel lined rear pockets and flannel pocket bags with copper hidden rivets on the rear pockets are just some of the details that give these jeans some personality.
