Monocle is causing all sorts of interest in the publishing sector. At a time when print media is falling apart, Monocle records increasing readership and steady gains. The credit falls on the quality and scope of its coverage. Though ostensibly positioned between a lifestyle and foreign affairs magazine, the articles fall largely in the latter category and are targeted to an older, more affluent audience who care about things like the Finnish Prime Ministerial election, or the best financial papers in Saudi Arabia for instance. The articles are well written and carefully considered, and often the only English language coverage of such topics. While older magazines like the Economist have lost reputation and market share, Monocle has positioned itself to be the most legitimate voice on world affairs.
