Despite recent allegations that facial hair was in fact ‘in,’ I’ve noticed an unsettling amount of clean-shaven faces. Though men like Don Draper, with their straight-razors, have been making the look incredibly fashionable, I must protest. Nothing is more alluring than proper facial hair. The most popular, of course, is the ‘scruffy’ look, but if you’re not blessed with patch-free growth patterns or if you can handle a razor like a champ, why stop there?
Outfit 1:
Although this look has some flaws, it is a good example of the ‘thin mustache.’ There are a lot of ways to style your ‘stache, but it’s safe to say, with few exceptions, that the slighter versions are more chic. They recall runways and Polish princes and all the things right in the world. However, this ‘stache can be a little pervy and should maybe not be paired with ripped-up jeans exposing your shorts and a weird goatee.
Outfit 2:
Samson’s only weakness was cutting his hair and beard, the consequence of which was the sapping of his strength and invulnerability. Might this be the same for a man of style? The tried-and-true scruff (in varying lengths) adds a strength and laissez faire classiness to any outfit—even if you’re just hungover and didn’t feel like shaving. The trick, though, is to keep it manicured. Find the right adjustment on the clippers to get the right amount of fuzz suited to your face: just enough to add some shading, not too much to hide your wonderful bone structure. Grown out even further, on the right person, a shorter beard can be a very attractive addition to your look.
