To those gents hesitant to test the waters of quirky style in the wake of Kanye and Andre 3000’s bowtie domination – think again, compadres. When worn with the right pieces, with or without irony, this onetime symbol of stuffiness and geekery is fast securing its niche both as a hip alternative to the necktie, and as an all-around rad accessory.
Outfit 1: I’ll bet this man struggles not in the romance department. Furthermore, I predict that those notebooks in his right hand are brimming with original erotic poetry – addressed to at least five different ladies. Although all of the components of this outfit have been chosen with a sartorial eagle eye, with creative attention paid to pattern, shape and texture, he’s ultimately allowed his loosely tied polka dot bow take the helm. The key to making a bowtie work is simple – own it with composure and confidence, and no one will dare shoot you a questioning look.
Outfit 2: This outfit is both a fantastic example of how to rock a bowie, and how to amp up a monochromatic ensemble with a smattering of accessories. Though I admittedly hold slight reservations about the golden globule swinging from this dude’s neck, I admire that he’s managed to wear a bowtie in so subtle a manner that it feels almost organic. Juxtaposed with the first image, this image showcases how a bowtie can be utterly chic and understated.
