The weeks leading up to Halloween are fun. The premature costume parties are further punctuated by fall-inspired activities (like the infamous Zombie Marches popping up around the world) and everyone is getting excited for the big day. Non-denominational and endlessly entertaining, why not take the plunge into the wonderful world of costuming? It takes a lot of ‘these’ to dress up and it’s the one day of the year you won’t stand out.
Outfit 1:
With Twilight, ‘True Blood,’ and a whole slew of knock-offs filling seats and pants everywhere, the most anticipated choice in costume this year is definitely the vampire. While there are a thousand ways to go about it, like the Dracula-inspired cloak-and-tux or ‘True Blood’s’ vampire-citizens, one thing remains the same: you have to be undead. Take inspiration from this guy’s make-up: go white or bluish all over your face with darker colors marking your eye sockets and below your cheek bones (in the hollows)—think black, navy, or dark purple, depending on what you have access to. This works for zombies, as well, but vampires can also benefit from a little blood smeared around or trickling from your lips.
Outfit 2:
If you want to break away from convention, get a bit more creative. Why hold back and be ‘most-anticipated’ when you can wow them all with your creative genius? “Sure,” you say, “but what should I be?” Well, the answers are innumerable. Pick a movie star, a character (Rorschach and Where The Wild Things Are‘s Max likely to be popular), or a concept. All this playing card needed was two pieces of bristol board and some paint, but maybe all you need to do is root around in your closet. Alice In Wonderland, for example, offers a slew of stylistic, quirky options, from the Mad Hatter to the Dormouse and everything in between, that only need minor accessories (i.e. mouse ears).
