Call me crazy, but I find something unspeakably adorable about a man in suspenders. Evocative of an earlier, more refined time, when cavorting about town in breeches with a flaxen-haired, rosy-cheeked and bonneted lass was the epitome of awesome, suspenders have never quite managed to shake their original charm. Although men’s fashion rarely necessitates the use of these fantastic elastics nowadays (thank the ubiquitous belt loop), they shouldn’t be overlooked as a fun and versatile accessory. Who knows, they may just help you attract a cherubic maiden of your own…
Outfit 1: I dig what’s going on here – Monsieur is exuding a seductive amalgam of Huck Finn, an ingenious vagrant gambler, and a lackadaisical farm boy who inevitably falls asleep in hay stacks that he should be baling. The emerald suspenders are the cherry on top of this outfit, in my opinion – something would be missing without their cheerful presence. Best with form-fitting pants not designed for belting, suspenders can top almost anything from button-ups to tees to tasteful – and I stress this word – sleeveless numbers.
Outfit 2: Admittedly, I prefer suspenders worn with pants, but this outfit is a super summery example of boy meets man – it feels fresh and youthful without taking itself too seriously. The trendy nautical color scheme is subtly personalized by the white suspenders, which complement the cute cut of the tailored shorts. The sandals are eerily similar to a pair that I wear far too frequently to validate snide commentary. Instead let me underline that suspenders pair well with many kinds of summer footwear by no means limited to gladiator Jesus boots.
