Store Room – Grown & Sewn (New York City)

Owners: Rob Magness
Address: 84 Duane Street, New York, NY, 10013 (map)
Website: Grown & Sewn

Grown & Sewn reflects every aspect of owner Rob Magness: Unquestionable integrity, the avoidance of fads and industry superficialities, and the ability to be iconic without being loud. He balances creativity with attention to detail. He draws inspiration from unlikely sources (military fatigues, factory attire) and calls his line ‘American dry goods’. Every aspect of the Grown & Sewn operation—cotton, washes, hardware, manufacturing—is done in the USA, specifically so that Rob can monitor operations to ensure product quality.

The Grown & Sewn showroom in downtown New York is as distinctive and unconventional as the company itself—a stunning gallery exhibiting the “American Art & Craft Collaborative,” where the Grown & Sewn Kax line shares space with the works of Purvis Young, the renowned Miami artist whose paintings can be seen in museums around the world. The space enables a very different perspective on these priceless works—a quiet but unique sense of connection, iconic without being loud.
