It’s true accessories make the outfit but they don’t need to be limited to what might be found in an H&M. The hippies had their paraphernalia, the ravers had their stuffed animals, and skaters have their… skates—now you too can join the tradition. Forget Wayfarers and boating shoes, this season is all about what you’re not wearing.
Outfit 1:
Some guys have been using cars to (try to) pick up chicks but they’ve been missing the mark. Bikes can work but the Vespa stands out with its special Italian sophistication. It’s a step up from the self-propelled transportation without being quite as expensive as a motorcycle. Combined with a simple outfit (while nixing the weird cowl neck), nothing says ‘transient sophistication’ like a moped—extra points for subtly matching (i.e. black and white with a red bike).
Outfit 2:
Though a little more ‘run of the mill,’ a dog is a powerful accessory fabled, along with the legendary baby, to stop every woman in her tracks. Since I can’t condone using babies as accessories, stick with a pup. If you’re going to be bringing your dog everywhere, you have to make it look like it’s a quotidian thing; wear something simple yet sophisticated—like the white shirt, jeans, and dress shoes, here—to fool onlookers into thinking you’re always that debonaire.
