Despite scientists disproving the hypothesis that 40-45% of your body heat leaves through your head, as temperatures start dropping, head gear becomes an all-time important addition to your outerwear. I can’t necessarily prove that the warmer the hat, the less clothing you have to wear, but I can certainly assert it confidently. If you can cover your head and ears, you should be set for hours on end in the cold outdoors.
Outfit 1:
These hats come in a variety of fabrics—from down-filled to thickly felted versions—and colors to go with any of your favourite clothes. Companies like Supreme have mastered the nylon versions, allowing you to wear a little less on milder days (maybe with a nice, oversized sweater). The usual (faux) fur lining is fashionable, functional, and soft against yours ears.
Outfit 2:
Artisans or leather manufacturers offer an array of suede and leather hats lined with fur, or even all-fur versions. These will be infinitely warmer than any nylon model and will be the perfect companion on any long, cold, winter day. Though fur isn’t necessarily an ethical luxury, no one has yet to establish a synthetic, equally warm alternative—as implausible as that sounds—so you may as well embrace it.
