They say you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day and it’s something I personally adhere to. However, with the invention and popularization of white wool coats—much like the one offered this season at Club Monaco—and other such items, I’m going to have to tentatively disagree. I’ve seen a few pairs of white jeans hanging around street cars and concerts and they just earned my seal of approval.
Outfit 1:
Levi’s jeans really are the best. The brand has tapped into all sorts of niches (i.e. raw, shrink-to-fit, etc.) and have clad everyone in every conceivable style since overalls in the 1800s. But classic doesn’t have to mean predictable. White jeans are kind of shocking; you don’t expect them and they’re offered all year round. It really messes with the predicted white-t-shirt-dark-jeans combination by completely inverting it.
Outfit 2:
Most white things you wear, like t-shirts or coats, you want to keep pristine and clean. White jeans, though, should be roughed up. They should be a little dirty. Unlike their darker cousins, white jeans can’t fade around your wallet or the creases behind your knees. Instead, they dirty a little around the seams, etc. and it’s just fine. If you keep them too nice, you might risk looking a little euro-trashy. Push the jeans’ limits.
