The fine folks at The Selvedge Yard have put together a wonderful feature on the now legendary 1967 European Stax tour. Dubbed “Hit The Road Stax,” the dates were intended to acquaint European audiences with what Stax thought was their very localized and unheard sound. Much to everyone’s surprise, English youth including Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, John Mayall, etc, all clambered for tickets and the chance to get close to their soulful American heroes.
This was just the beginning of Europe’s love affair with American R&B, one which would influence everything from their musicians to their fashion for decades to come. Read more at The Selvedge Yard
