After graduating from art school, Jennifer Maestre set out to find a more affordable material to use in her art work. Drawing inspiration from the sea urchin, she began using pencils to create sculptures. Maestre employs a peyote stitch technique to bead the pencils together. Her spiky sculptures are both fragile and forboding, sharp and smooth, dangerous and beautiful.
