The story behind the STYLED by Tom Stubbs project is rather unusual. While story-boarding a previous shoot – THE USUAL SUSPECTS – the good folks over at Oki-ni stumbled across Peter Doyle’s book Crooks Like Us, which documents the lives of Sydney’s most notorious in the 1920s. The series of images of the lives of suspected cocaine dealers, murderers, and miscreants in the book sparked the idea to do a shoot that would closely portray the shady underworld of Sydney.
Working closely with acclaimed stylist, tailoring specialist, and style journalist Tom Stubbs, this shoot flawlessly depicts this period’s inspiration with modern-day tailoring pieces. The shoot was photographed by Bevan Agyemang with art direction from Pete Hellyer.
