Wish You Were Here “’80s Football Casuals” Photo Exhibition

This post is close to my heart. Well, close to my fashion heart anyway. Surface 2 Air’s, Nic Jones will be currating a two day event at the Galerie Menouar in Paris called, Wish You Were Here “80s Football Casuals.” The exhibit explores the incredibly exciting period of the 1980s UK football scene, as through the amateur photography of Leeds supporters.

By the late 70s, young soccer fans across England were beginning to shift from the traditionally hard image of the “boot boy” to a much more refined and European sensibility. Gone were the Doc Martens and donkey jackets and in were Adidas Stan Smiths and Sergio Tacchini track tops. However, the pack mentality and often brutal violence still followed these now “casually” dressed firms of lads. For true fans of the culture, it will always be the clothes which defined this absolute watershed moment in street wear history. The event is partly in conjunction with Ellesse Heritage and will run between June 25 – June 26.
