Sebastiano Rossi photographs the 2011 Ivrea Carnival, a celebration which involves the locally famous Battle of the Oranges. The historic Italian carnival commemorates the rebellion of the people against a tyrant who ruled the town in the middle ages. Those who throw oranges from carts symbolise the tyrants’ guards, and those on foot the rebels.
As Rossi’s photos depict, it’s quite the messy affair, and while some emerge weary and red-eyed, others maintain smiles.

you better take some notes before talking,all the oranges used in this party were oranges to throw away.every year the teams buy tons of oranges that are out of the market because the tipical consumer would’nt buy them,so stop with this hypocrisy and if you cannot be happy in this party send some seeds to those who are starving and stop talkin blah blahs on the net.
