Simon Spurr Exits Label Under Mysterious Cirumstances

Simon Spurr left his eponymous menswear label on Friday, a particularly awkward turn of events since the CFDA nominated him for Menswear Designer of the Year just a few days beforehand. Considering his success, Spurr’s departure is quite mysterious, and he’s not helping to clarify matters: “At this moment, I’m not at liberty to say anything about what’s gone on,” he told WWD.

Spurr co-founded the brand back in 2006 with partner Judd Nydes (who remains at the label), starting with high-end denim and expanding into a full collection in 2009. He retains his position as a creative consultant for Tommy Hilfiger’s men’s runway collection. Prior to founding his own brand, Spurr worked with Hedi Slimane at Yves Saint Laurent (perhaps Slimane has recruited him to return?); he also worked at Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. It’s unclear whether he’s still eligible for his CFDA award.
